Sports Massage Training Courses
Through our sister organisation Sports Therapy UK, we have been teaching sports massage courses and sports therapy courses for over 25 years to students from the UK and overseas – this year we even had our first student join us from China!
Our flexible study programmes combine distance learning and practical training, allowing students to acquire a new skill or pursue a new profession alongside other jobs and busy lifestyles.
Behind the scenes, we have enthusiastic staff who will support and guide you through every step of your training and beyond. We will do all we can to make sure you have a great training experience, achieve high standards and grow in confidence when treating your clients.
We offer three levels of full courses, each one leading to nationally recognised qualifications by the Vocational Training Charitable Trust (VTCT). Our courses are also endorsed by The Register for Exercise Professionals (REPs) and you will be eligible to apply to join The Sports Massage Association with each award.
Our entry level course is our Level 3 Sports Massage Course which combines scientific theory and extensive practical training. The course was written and developed by Tim Paine, founder of Sports Therapy UK and BeActive Clinic, and his book The Complete Guide to Sports Massage is the core text for this course.
The practical training will comprise either 4 weekends over at least 3 months, or more intensive training lasting 7 days, followed by 2 days approximately 12 weeks later, allowing time for practice and further learning. There will be practical assessments and a written examination (multiple choice). To join our Level 3 Sports Massage Course you must be over 18 years old and be physically able to do the work. All study materials will be provided and you will be guided on all aspects of functional anatomy, physiology, plus how to recognise common sports injuries. You will learn skills and techniques enabling you to plan, prepare, and apply sports massage therapy to prevent injury and improve performance.
Upon successful completion, you will receive a VTCT Level 3 Sports Massage Diploma and a Sports Therapy UK Certificate. You will have the confidence and the skills to practice in a safe and professional manner, helping prevent injury and enhance the physical wellbeing of active people, whatever their age.
